Scrum-half Rory Lawson will be on the bench for Scotland for tomorrow’s Bank of Scotland Corporate Autumn Test against Australia. Lawson (Gloucester), 28, who has been capped 15 times, replaces Mike Blair who failed a fitness test on his injured ankle this morning. Lawson’s promotion to the Scotland squad means that Edinburgh’s Greig Laidlaw will start for the Scotland A team in tonight’s match against Tonga at Netherdale, Galashiels.  Mark McMillan (Glasgow Warriors) has been added to the Scotland A bench.The A game is definitely ON and kicks-off at 7.30pm. Rory Gordon MacGregor Lawson captained Midlands Schools at under-16 and under-18 as well as leading Scottish Schools’ under-15 team. He played club rugby for Heriot’s – where he helped the side to lift the 2003 BT Cup with victory against Watsonians – before signing as a professional with Edinburgh in 2003.Rory made his international sevens debut at the IRB New Zealand tournament in February 2006, where he was a key figure in the 10-5 extra-time victory against Canada in the Bowl final. He then flew home to help Edinburgh prepare for their Celtic League crunch clash with Ulster at Murrayfield before returning to sevens duty for the Commonwealth Games sevens in Melbourne in March 2006. He led Scotland A to the final of the Barclays Churchill Cup tournament in Canada in June 2006 before moving  to Gloucester for season 2006/07 where he made his debut off the bench in the win against Bath. Following in the footsteps of his father, Alan – also a Scotland scrum half – he made his debut as a replacement against Australia in the Bank of Scotland Corporate international at Murrayfield in November 2006. They are the 15th father-and-son pair to play for Scotland. Rory’s Six Nations debut came against England at Twickenham on the opening day of the 2007 tournament and he made his World Cup debut later that year as a replacement in the win over Portugal. He returned to lead Scotland A in the Churchill Cup win against the USA in May 2007 and further victories over Italy A and Ireland A. This was followed by his return to Six Nations duty in Scotland’s Calcutta Cup success over England in March 2008. He also made replacement appearances in the two Tests in Argentina that summer. He returned to Scotland A for the IRB Nations Cup success in Bucharest in June 2009 playing alongside his cousin, Jim Thompson, in the tournament. Both are grandsons of world renowned rugby commentator Bill McLaren.
