Scotland Women Prove A Force After Army Win
7 Jan 2012
Scotland Women proved a force to be reckoned with in today’s 24-6 win over The Army, following on from November’s victory over Holland Women. In a fast-paced game, the Scots put four tries past their well-drilled opposition on a crisp afternoon at Murrayfield, in their final fixture before the Six Nations kicks off next month. Head coach Karen Findlay said: It was really pleasing to get another win, with four tries scored. It shows we’re trying to play rugby with width, build phases and consolidate that with finishing off the job in the opposition 22. All 30 squad members had the chance of game time, with rolling subs used throughout the match. Listen to Karen’s thoughts on today’s game here: Both sides kicked off with some great end to end play with the home side crossing the whitewash first, early in the first half, with a well-worked try from Lisa Ritchie. Following some great breaks by Steph Johnston, her persitence paid off with the second score, this time converted by Ritchie. The Army replied with two penalties in this first half, their only scores of the game. Half time: 12-6 After an evenly matched second half, in terms of pace and handling, it was Scotland who broke the pattern to score a third try, from Katy Green; the conversion, in front of the posts, sailed through again from Ritchie. Some great work by the forwards, notably Heather Lockhart, saw the pack pressure the Army line. With minutes to go, a final push saw Lindsay Wheeler’s hand on the ball for the fourth try. With the light beginning to fade, the conversion came up short and the final whistle sounded. Final score: 24-6 For biographies on the Scotland Women squad, please click here.
