Scotland Women to take on England and France at Scotstoun

28 Nov 2017

Scotland Women will play their 2018 Six Nations home matches at Scotstoun in Glasgow this February.

The Scots will host England and France at the Glasgow Warriors’ home ground having previously been based at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld.

Boasting a state-of-the-art artificial surface, the venue will lend itself to an entertaining and fast-moving brand of rugby.

Head Coach of Scotland Women, Shade Munro, said: “We have been building well towards the Six Nations so to get confirmation on the challenge we face really focuses the squad.

“We made great strides last year and we’re keen to kick on from some good results and training in the autumn and improve our game even further.”

Scotland Captain, Lisa Martin, is excited at the prospect of playing more matches in front of a noisy Glasgow crowd after Scotland hosted Spain there in their 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup qualifier.

Martin, said: “We’re excited to build on the successes of last Six Nations and cement our place in the table.

“The squad is under no illusions that the other teams will have gained valuable experience during the recent World Cup campaign but our series of matches in the run up to this year’s Six Nations, and the work the squad has done over preseason, will hold us in good stead leading up to our first match in Wales.

“Our two home games against England and France this year will be a massive challenge, but having these games at Scotstoun and knowing the passionate atmosphere that brings with it will boost the squad.”

Scotland Women won two of their home matches in last year’s championship, beating Wales and Italy in closely fought affairs to finish fourth overall.

Glasgow Warriors’ Managing Director Nathan Bombrys said: “We are very proud Scottish Rugby have agreed for us to host two 6 Nations Championship matches in Glasgow at our home at Scotstoun Stadium.

“Women’s rugby is on a real high following the success of the Rugby World Cup earlier this autumn, and it’s a great opportunity for the City of Glasgow to be hosting another world class sporting event featuring two of the best teams in world rugby in France and England.

“Our supporters have created a special match day experience at Scotstoun and a real home field advantage for the Warriors, and believe a similar home field advantage can be created to get behind the Scotland Women as they aim for 6 Nations victories against France and England.”
