Referee and former Scotland 7s player Mike Adamson has received a call-up to take charge of a number of matches at this weekend’s Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s.The late call-up, due to one of the listed referees having to return home, came as something of a pleasant surprise, as Mike told Scottish Rugby in this exclusive video interview. He said: I only started refereeing at the beginning of the season. My first game was Heriot’s v Livingston in a Cup game and things have progressed quite quickly from there.I played alongside a few of the players still in the Scotland 7s squad and they’ve had a few things to say about me turning over to the ‘dark side’ as they call it! But it’s been in good sport and they’re really excited to see me doing so well in refereeing.I haven’t played at Scotstoun – my last season was just before Glasgow Warriors and the HSBC World Series went there – but I’ve heard from the players it’s a good environment, a big buzz and that the atmosphere’s good when the crowd are behind them.Hopefully they can get behind a referee at the tournament too!Mike will be refereeing the South Africa v Portugal, Australia v Spain and Argentina v Kenya fixtures on Saturday (3 May) with Sunday’s fixtures dependent on Saturday’s results.Come and support your country!
