Scotland’s Playlist: Daytime TV

Scotland’s Playlist was launched in September to offer bands the opportunity to play on the North Stand stage in the Fan Village ahead of our Autumn Nations Series matches.

As well as getting the chance to play in front of thousands of Scotland supporters, the music from each band will also get played on our social content which goes out on our Digital channels around each match.

This Sunday before the Australia game, we’ll be welcoming Daytime TV to BT Murrayfield.

Daytime TV are a four-piece alternative rock band based in Edinburgh and London. Recalibrating over lockdown, the band made their return to live music at the recent TRNSMT Festival and play at BT Murrayfield days after announcing the release of their debut album ‘Nothing’s On But Everyone’s Watching’ for February 2022.

In their short time together, the band’s incendiary singles ‘Hush’, ‘Communication’, ‘Ugly’ + ‘Zombie’ have taken over the airwaves and notched up plays on major playlists at Apple Music and Spotify.

Championed as one of Rock Sound’s Breaking Through artists for the future, the magazine were quick to praise Daytime TV’s: “uniquely captivating brand of arena-ready pop-rock” too.

Performing at the home of Scottish Rugby is a dream come true for frontman Will Irvine as he dreamed of playing for Scotland at BT Murrayfield whilst in Primary School. Fast forward to now and although Will’s path has changed to music and he arrives with a guitar rather than a rugby ball it is clear events have still gone full circle.

Will Irvine, lead singer and guitarist from Daytime TV, said:“I’ve always said that BT Murrayfield would be my dream venue to play with the band.

“I wanted to play rugby for Scotland when I was in primary school. When I changed my path to music I always thought it’d be a nice salute to my seven-year-old self to play there one day. I never thought it would happen so soon though! I’m sort of hoping they need to bring me on as a super sub in the second half. Slot the winning penalty. I’m ready Gregor.

“It’s so mad that it’s all gone full circle. When I was at primary school in the highlands we had to write a letter to our hero inviting them to the school as a writing exercise.

“We weren’t meant to send the letters but I printed off two copies and sent one to Gregor Townsend. I totally didn’t expect any response but he sent the nicest letter back saying that he’d love to make the six-hour drive north to come and hang out and give a talk at the school. What a guy!

“I told him all about my plans to play for Scotland and got some tips off him. Fast forward to now and I’m about to play at BT Murrayfield, but with a guitar instead of a rugby ball. We were so buzzing when we got the call! It’s smack in the middle of our UK Tour as well which is just dreamy. We’re playing the Liquid Room in Edinburgh two days before. It was meant to be.”
