23 May 2014
Scottish Rugby, in partnership with the International Rugby Board (IRB), held a four day training programme at Murrayfield on IRB medical guidelines. The course, delivered by Scottish Rugby’s chief medical officer James Robson and coaching development manager Neil Graham, saw 12 healthcare professionals become IRB medical educator accredited.Graham, said:”The course was heralded as a great success as we now have a cohort of accredited educators who can assist Scottish Rugby with the delivery of IRB first aid courses in the future.”We extend our thanks to the IRB who helped us to roll-out the course, and for their continued support on player welfare development.”In addition to the medical educators exercise, an IRB first aid in rugby course, was delivered to 18 coaches from all facets of the club and schools game.Jock Peggie and Jonathan Hanson, IRB Training Manager and Senior Medical Educator respectively, were also in attendance at the course.Peggie, said: “It’s great to be back at Murrayfield, especially to help Scottish Rugby grow a workforce of certified IRB medical educators.”It is imperative that those involved in all levels of the game are educated in the correct medical procedures, and we now have people who will subsequently deliver the IRB first aid course in Scotland next season.”Player welfare is the number one priority of the IRB, and we know that Scottish Rugby place the same importance on this area of the game – we look forward to hearing of the success of the programme in the future.”
