U18 SHIELD: High School of Glasgow 45-22 Kelvinside Academy

It was two Glasgow sides meeting in the U18 Shield on the back pitches of BT Murrayfield, as Kelvinside and The High School Glasgow went head-to-head.

Seamus Keaney opened the scoring for Royal High early on, the try came straight off the back of Kelvinside’s Ross Wilson being shown a yellow card for a high tackle. The score was impressively converted by Luke Armstrong.

Rory Jackson soon brought Kelvinside straight back into it with a fine run to dot down, but the conversion was missed with the score 7-5 after the early exchanges.

An excellent run by Armstrong ensured The High School would extend their lead further a few minutes later, which was accompanied by another great conversion.

The High School back-line were now getting into the groove with some lovely passing between the back-rows which unpicked holes in their opponent’s defence.

Lawrence Lavizani showed great pace after some nice build up play to accelerate into the corner. Callum Brown scored for Kelvinside, to bring his side to within 16 points.

However, Ben Hutton finished off a nice move on the stroke of half-time, which was duly converted to leave the score 33-10.

The second half belonged to The High School as they put in a solid 40 minutes. Lavizani and Luke Armstrong both ran in their second tries of the match, before a special run from his own half gave Kelvinside something to cheer about, with the final score 45-22

U18 PLATE: Carrick Academy 0-38 Boroughmuir High School

Boroughmuir ran out winners in a match where Carrick came close on several occasions but couldn’t seem to catch a break.

Within minutes of kick-off Boroughmuir High School had made their way down to Carrick Academy’s 22 and were looking dangerous. Winger Josh Howard made it across the whitewash to put the first points on the board (0-5). Boroughmuir continued to look strong, with quick offloads but Carrick pushed back and found themselves deep in opposition territory. They couldn’t convert possession into points and the second try on the day went to Boroughmuir centre Hugh Dawson who managed to touch down before Callum Brown added the extras (0-12).

It wasn’t long before Dawson made it a brace (0-17) will Brown converting (0-19). Carrick continued to make life difficult for the Edinburgh side but couldn’t hold back the direct running and fast offloads of their opposition and full-back Jeke Canakaivata caught the ball in his own 22 before proceeding to run the length of the pitch before Brown kicked over the posts (0-26).

HALF-TIME Carrick Academy 0-26 Boroughmuir High School

In the second half Carrick continued to do good defensive work but couldn’t seem to hold back the tide of Boroughmuir’s attacked. Canakaivata scored his second try of the night to stretch the score to 0-31 and it wasn’t long before replacement Cameron Ledingham added another score (0-36) then Brown successfully converted once more (0-38).

Carrick spent much of the last 10 minutes of the game in Boroughmuir’s 22 and it looked as if they must score but their determination didn’t change the final scoreline and Boroughmuir lifted the U18 Plate.
