Seymour and Swinson sign new Glasgow contracts

Glasgow Warriors have received a boost ahead of this Saturday’s European Rugby Champions Cup match against Munster, with the news that Scotland internationals Tommy Seymour and Tim Swinson have signed new deals with the club.Winger Seymour has signed for a further two years through until May 2019, while second-row Swinson has put pen-to-paper on a new three-year contract until May 2020.Seymour and Swinson follow Stuart Hogg, Henry Pyrgos, Adam Ashe and Greg Peterson in signing new contracts with the club, while BT Sport Scottish Rugby Academy duo Lewis Wynne and Matt Smith have signed professional deals this season.The news follows the announcement that Rail Engineering Partner, Story Contracting have extended their sponsorship of the club until the end of the 2017/18 season, with their logo remaining on the sleeve of the Warriors shirt.Seymour has made 95 appearances for the Warriors and has scored 31 tries since joining from Ulster in 2011.The Nashville-born 28-year-old is the PRO12’s top try-scorer so far this season with eight tries, including two against defending champions Connacht and four against Leinster.He is now a regular for Scotland with 31 caps under his belt and 14 tries, with the most recent coming against Georgia at Rugby Park in November.Seymour, who has won the PRO12 Try of the Season award twice over the last three years, was named the Guinness Man of the Match following Glasgow’s 29-15 win over Cardiff Blues on Saturday.Speaking exclusively to glasgowwarriors.org, Tommy Seymour said: “I’m delighted to be staying at Glasgow Warriors.”It’s a club which is close to my heart now and I’ve been part of a lot of changes which have happened with the move of venue, the development of the playing squad and the size of the crowd.”You can see the supporters have taken to Scotstoun as if it’s their home as well. The chants, the songs and the vocal atmosphere they provide in my opinion is second to none and it really does provide an environment you can’t wait to go out and play in front of.”The club has really built a big name for itself since I’ve been here and it’s something I’m keen to remain a part of.”With the change of coaching staff next season it offers an exciting opportunity to carry on that development and really continue growing with the club.”Dave Rennie is regarded as one of the best coaches in the world and we’re all really looking forward to working with him next season.”Swinson, who joined the Warriors in 2012, has gone on to make 90 appearances for the Guinness PRO12 side and has scored 12 tries.The 29-year-old made his debut for Scotland against South Africa in 2013 and now has 25 caps for his country.The former Newcastle Falcons lock played 120 times for the English Premiership side over five seasons at Kingston Park.Speaking exclusively to glasgowwarriors.org, Tim Swinson said: “This is my second three-year contract with the Warriors and I’ve signed for that length of time because it’s a great club to be at and there is a good buzz around the place.”With other guys signing new contracts it’s good to know that the guys you get on well with on and off the pitch are going to be here.”It’ll be a different opportunity with Dave Rennie next season, we’ve had five years now with Gregor, so it’ll be interesting to work with another coach.”I’m also looking forward to getting to know Jonathan Humphreys better as I get on well with him and it’ll be good to work with him at club-level.”Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend added: “It’s great news that Tommy and Tim want to stay and continue their careers in Glasgow.”They both work really hard to continually improve and have become important members of the squad over the last few years.”They care a lot about the club and make big contributions both on and off the pitch.”Both players are in cracking form just now as we enter an important couple of weeks for the club.”
