The Clan claim bronze

25 Aug 2017

Trust Rugby International's The Clan have finished third in a global unified rugby tournament.

Representing Scotland, The Clan played Italian side Chivasso Rugby in the third-place play-off today in the International Mixed Ability Rugby tournament in the north of Spain.

Mixed ability or unified rugby sees players with learning difficulties or autism playing alongside those who do not.

The Clan came from behind to win the match 19-17 with a try in the dying minutes of the match to equal and successful conversion to put them in the lead.

It was the Italians who got the first points on the board with two early tries. But the Clan remained calm and scored a try of their own with some good hands moving the ball out wide to Josh Nisbet who dived into the corner to score.

The Italians were quick to react and scored again to make it 17-5 at the break.

The second half was very close with some fantastic defence from both sides. The Clan managed an excellent try by Aron Miller under the posts followed by a conversation which made the score 17-12 with 10 minutes to go.

It was looking like a loss for The Clan, but then came a similar try to the first. The forwards sucking in the Italian defence with pick and goes and then some slick hands from the backs moving the ball wide to Liam Deary who scored in the corner.

The score was now 17-17 with a kick to come from Paul Johnston. He remained calm and slotted it straight through the uprights to claim a two-point win
