Tips for coaches | Everyone’s Game

Rugby is back! Scottish Rugby is committed to supporting coaches from our member clubs and schools to deliver rugby safely to new and returning players. From RugbyRight, tips and best practice resources – we’re here to help coaches create fun, safe and inclusive environments for all players.

RugbyRight

The 2021/22 RugbyRight e-learning course is now available through Scottish Rugby’s Management System – SCRUMS.

The course provides information and content around a wide range of player welfare subjects such as concussion management, tackle safety, safeguarding, anti-doping to name but a few.

It is important as the game returns after a 16-month break that everyone involved in rugby has player welfare at the forefront of their minds – this course therefore is the minimum standard for ALL coaches and match officials across Scotland for 2021/22.

Injury Prevention

With roughly 18-months away from the game, a sharp increase in intense physical activity could lead to an incease risk of injury. Scottish Rugby recommends that all coaches implement the World Rugby ACTIVATE injury prevention programme with their team.

Mental Wellbeing e-Learning

Scottish Rugby’s Mental Wellbeing e-Learning course is designed to equip players, coaches and volunteers with the tools and techniques they need to effectively support themselves and others in the rugby community.

This free course, is comprised of a series of modules, questions and case studies, and concludes by sign-posting users to a range of support lines and other mental wellbeing organisations, including Breathing Space, who launched their partnership with Scottish Rugby in October 2019.

Scottish Rugby designed the course in collaboration with health professionals including Chief Medical Officer Dr James Robson, Dr Katy Robson from the Hampden Sports Clinic, although with guidance from the Scottish FA, who recently created a similar resource for coaches.

The course is also supported by G4S, Official Stewarding Partner to Scottish Rugby, Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors. G4S firmly believe that sport can play a powerful role in being the catalyst to improving the quality of life for young people in communities across Scotland.
