Unbeaten Bishopton named BT Club of the Month

30 Oct 2017

Bishopton have been named BT Club of the Month for September for their commitment to club-wide development.

The Renfrewshire club enjoyed an unbeaten month in BT West League Division 3, recording a bonus point in every match, and fielded their first ever under-18 team.

The club has made strides in its coaching, youth section and officiating as well as establishing a development XV.

The development team was set up with the aim of creating a second XV next season and ensures that younger and fringe players can play regular rugby and continue to improve their game.

Club President Graeme Adam, said: “As a club, we’ve been working incredibly hard to improve performance at every level and we have seen that pay off.

“The playing numbers, the coaching and the engagement we’re seeing from everyone in the club are all going in the right direction.Bishopton has been lucky to see members get involved in every aspect of the game, not just playing, which is really pleasing.

“To receive the BT Club of the Month award is the cherry on top of what has been a great month for the club.”

Bishopton has targeted player recruitment and retention and seven of the current first XV have graduated from the club’s youth section to join the senior team.

The club’s future looks especially bright with players Rory Jackson and Callum Brown are part of the BT Sport Scottish Rugby Academy and capped for West U16 respectively.

Another of their youth section, Andrew Carey, has recently started training as a referee alongside playing.

The BT Club of the Month award celebrates on-pitch performance, discipline and player development.

To win, a club does not have to be the best in all three areas, but should show a successful balance, with potential for long-term growth.

Bishopton will receive £200 plus a 12 month commercial BT Sport subscription for their clubhouse.

Winning clubs will also be nominated for BT Club of the Season at the annual Club Awards Dinner at BT Murrayfield.
