A gym session, coaching clinic and home movies – Scotland Women made the most of their last day in Spain. Sarah Law has this update on what the squad got up to at the end of their camp in Valladolid, funded by Erasmus+.With Tuesday being the last day of camp out here in Valladolid, Spain, there were mixed emotions at the start of the day.The intensity of a ten-day training camp was new for most players and there have been some sore bodies throughout our time here, but the highs of the weekend’s win over Spain, and the excitement of what is to come, meant the overriding feeling was that of disappointment that the camp was coming to an end.The morning session saw a return to the gym where the group were split into forwards and backs. With one set of players lifting weights, the other headed out to the pitch where they were given the opportunity to stand on the other side of a training session and use some of the skills they had recently gained by partaking in the UKCC level 1 coaching course. While most focussed their sessions on some of the basic skills of rugby, one player challenged herself to deliver the session in Spanish, putting into practise some of the phrases learnt during our time here. After refuelling back at the hotel, the squad headed back to VRAC Rugby Club for our last rugby session. At the end of a hard week, this session took on a much more relaxed tone, with some fun and games, rounded off by a crossbar challenge, which was won by hooker, Lana Skeldon. In the evening, the squad gathered for a final team activity. Having been split into groups for the duration of the camp each team had produced a short film on a different genre. There were some outstanding productions given the limited prep time and the viewing was a perfect end to what has been an incredibly successful trip both on and off the field. With spirits higher than they’ve ever been in the squad, we will begin our journey home and return to our day jobs and the evening and early morning training sessions. There’s no doubt, however, that we are thoroughly looking forward to what lies ahead for Scotland Women.
