Watson commits to capital club on two-year deal
9 Jan 2017
Back-row Hamish Watson has agreed a new two-year deal with Edinburgh Rugby, which will see him feature for the capital club until May 2019. The 25-year old graduated from the club’s Academy into a fully professional contract in 2014 – a deal which was extended the following year – after spells with Scotland 7s and Leicester Tigers. He has since made 66 appearances for Edinburgh Rugby.During his time at the club, he has played for Scotland on five occasions – most recently starting in all three of the national team’s 2016 Autumn Tests – after debuting against Italy in the 2015 RBS 6 Nations Championship. On penning a new deal with Edinburgh Rugby, he said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be staying at Edinburgh. It’s a great club with a great squad, coaching team and backroom staff, and I love the city.”I feel that this club is right for me to continue developing my game, and a place for me to stay and build on my Scotland caps.”The club is going in the right direction and there’s a lot that can be achieved with this squad, and that’s something I want to be a part of in the coming seasons.”Watson, who qualifies for Scotland through his grandparents, is a versatile and powerful back-row and has amassed 60 points through 12 tries in the black and red.The announcement follows the news his national team back-row colleague Magnus Bradbury has re-signed with the club, further strengthening Edinburgh Rugby’s depth in the forward pack.Acting Head Coach Duncan Hodge said: “Hamish is an outstanding individual, who gives everything for the team every time he’s on the park.”He has worked extremely hard to develop his game over the last couple of seasons, and his efforts have paid dividends as he continues to perform and improve in an Edinburgh jersey.”As a coaching team, we are delighted Hamish has committed to the club for a further two seasons.”
