On Sunday 2nd October, East Region met West Region in a tightly fought match at Lasswade RFC, finishing in a draw, with both teams scoring one try each.  The Regional Development Groups participated in a combined training session, followed by a chance to put their skills into practice in a game, with coaching breaks to help them gain understanding of the game flow.EAST REGION SQUAD   5 – 5   WEST REGION SQUADFollowing on from this match day, the Women’s Senior Regional Programme for 2011-12 continues on Saturday 15th October 2011 with both Regional Squads and Regional Development Groups participating in training within their regions. The programme is open to all senior players within Scotland, and it’s not too late to get involved!  Although the Regional Squads have already been selected, the event is open to any player wishing to join in, irrespective of experience.  All you have to do is send a completed registration form (see below) to the relevant Development Group Manager, and you will be included in all relevant information sent.  Any player identified with potential may be asked to join the Regional Squad for the final match day, following the training session.Why get Involved? *   Player can try out and develop new skills, without risk to league/cup results*   Player has the opportunity to play and train in a challenging environment, with other players of similar experience and ability*   Increased game time at an appropriate level helps to build more confident, experienced players*   Player can focus on specific positional skills, using the expertise of specialist qualified coaches*   Player can try out or gain experience in a new position, thereby being more adaptable within the club game*   Coaches and players can gain an insight to coaching from a different perspective*   Syllabus used covers identified areas for development within the women’s game in Scotland*   For any player wishing to progress to Scotland Women or Scotland Women U20 squads, participation in the programme is essential, as it offers an ongoing route of entry throughout the season. Saturday 15th October 2011 – Training Day East Region @ Inverleith RFC (19 Arboretum Road, Edinburgh, EH3 5PN)                Regional Squad Manager – Louise Livingstone – [email protected]                 East Regional Development Group Manager – Ru Clements – [email protected]  West Region @ Cartha QP RFC (Dumbreck Road, Glasgow, G41 4SN)                West Regional Squad Manager – Fiona Reardon – [email protected]                 West Regional Development Group Manager – Fiona Burns – [email protected]  Players should register by 11am, ready to start training at 11.30am.  Sessions will be finished by 3pm.  The training session will cover handling/continuity followed by contact skills (attack & defence), following the Scotland Women Coaching/Learning Syllabus, delivered by qualified coaches. Sunday 6th November 2011 – Match Day (West v East) East & West Regions @ Stirling Co RFC (Bridgehaugh Park, Stirling, FK9 5AP) Players should register by 11am, ready to start warm up at 11.30am.  Matches will kick off at 12.30pm.  All players will get at least 30 minutes game time and the opportunity to play in their preferred position. For further information on the programme, contact Car Stevenson – Rugby Development Manager (Women & Girls) – [email protected]. {jd_file file==585}{jd_file file==972}
