Buying a ticket for November’s Bank of Scotland Autumn Tests means they will have a chance to watch Magners League action, including the longest-running representative derby in the world for free. Find out more So, no umpteenth re-run of The Sound of Music on TV; instead they can find their dreams by catching the nucleus of the international team in action in the colours of Edinburgh and Glasgow Warriors. Last season crowds for Edinburgh and Glasgow Warriors showed healthy growth, corresponding with some tremendous displays against some of the best teams in Europe, said Scottish Rugby’s Chief Executive, Gordon McKie. We’re keen to encourage supporters who come to Murrayfield to watch the national team to increase their rugby diet and what better way to start than by seeing many of those self-same players in the colours of Edinburgh and Glasgow in a local derby that is based on an intense rivalry stretching back some 136 years. Fans who buy tickets for any of Scotland’s three Bank of Scotland Corporate Autumn Tests – against New Zealand on Saturday 8 November; South Africa on Saturday 15 November; and Canada on Saturday 22 November – will be able to get a free ticket for a Magners League match. The offer includes the Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors match at Murrayfield on Boxing Day (see the notes to editors for further details). The same match last season produced a veritable try-feast with Edinburgh winning 35-31 in the final minute of a pulsating game. Glasgow, however, took the overall honours, and the silverware, the 1872 Cup, by posting a 23-14 success at Firhill later in the season. Between the two squads this season there are 28 Scotland internationalists, ready to represent Scotland’s corner in the Magners League and Heineken Cup. Edinburgh captain Mike Blair said: This is a great offer for fans – a nice Christmas gift really, considering it would cost£15 for an adult ticket for our derby game against Glasgow. His Glasgow counterpart Alastair Kellock said: The atmosphere at our derbies against Edinburgh last season was fabulous, both home and away, and it would be brilliant if we could better that. This offer will hopefully inspire many Scotland supporters to come and cheer on the Warriors to make a winning start to our defence of the 1872 Cup. Gordon McKie added: This offer demonstrates Scottish Rugby’s determination to encourage supporters to attend pro-team games as well as international fixtures. In addition we are working hard to encourage more people to become involved with their local rugby club whether as players, supporters or volunteers. It’s also part of our drive to heighten the profile of our players, which we will be doing when we launch our ‘We are Scotland’ marketing campaign, and provide greater value for our supporters alongside the erection of the biggest permanent TV screens at a sports ground in Scotland, which we expect to be up and running at Murrayfield in time for the Autumn Tests.
