Obituary: Percy Friebe
Scottish Rugby is saddened to learn of the death earlier this month of former Scotland number 8 Percy Friebe. He was 88.
John Percy Friebe (Glasgow High School FP), known as Ian to residents of the Erskine veterans’ home in Glasgow where he stayed, was honorary president of the GHK club in the city.
He held the unique distinction of having his name on four honours boards at Old Anniesland as a past captain of the club; past president both of GHK and of Glasgow High School FP; and on the internationalists’ board.
He was one of five new caps when he made his lone appearance for Scotland in a loss against England at Murrayfield in March 1952.
His funeral will take place at Clydebank Crematorium, Mountblow Rd, Clydebank G81 4SL, on Wednesday (29 May) at 2.30pm and thereafter in the Jimmie Ireland Stand at Old Anniesland.
Scottish Rugby extends its sincere condolences to all Percy Friebe’s family and friends.
