PREM PREVIEW | Watsonians host Boroughmuir in Edinburgh derby
In this week’s Tennent’s Premiership fixtures, it’s an Edinburgh derby with Watsonians hosting Boroughmuir at Myreside (kick-off 3pm).
Boroughmuir come into the derby on the back of three consecutive league wins, while Watsonians have also enjoyed a strong start to the season, pushing Melrose all the way last week.
Watsonians have the in-form Andrew Chalmers in the starting line-up alongside Edinburgh U20s prospect Lomond MacPherson and will prove to be tricky opponents.
Ahead of the fixutre, Boroughmuir Head Coach, Peter Wright, said: “After a little bit of consistency in the league over the last 3 games this is a real test for us.
“Watsonians will want to bounce back after their defeat last week against Melrose. Local derbies are always fun and should get the best out of both sets of players.”
Watsonians Head Coach, Steven Lawrie, said: “We were pleased with aspects of our performance last week at the Greenyards but it was ultimately a case of close but no cigar.
“This week we have the massive challenge of Boroughmuir who have been improving all the time. An impressive display against Melrose in the cup was followed up with a comprehensive victory last weekend in which they showed their lineout strength and some nifty finishing in behind.”
Elsewhere, Ayr will host Heriot’s in a big clash at Millbrae and Currie Chieftains entertain Stirling County at Malleny Park.
Hawick will be looking to continue their upward trajectory after their win against Currie last weekend as they travel to Balgray to face Glasgow Hawks, while second placed Melrose head to Raeburn Place to go head-to head against Edinburgh Accies.
