Prestigious coaching qualification inducts second wave of coaches
Scottish Rugby has today announced the next group of coaches to embark on the UKCC Level 4 coaching qualification, which aims to increase the standard of Scotland’s performance coaches.The United Kingdom Coaching Certificate (UKCC) Level 4 was introduced for the first time in Scotland last season, and will continue to be delivered in partnership with Edinburgh Napier University and sportscotland.The UKCC Level 4 aims to develop visionary, outstanding and knowledgeable decision makers, who can advance their own, and others, learning and impact on performance. This season’s enrolment will see six coaches with experience from across the club and school game undertake the two-year qualification, as Scottish Rugby continues to nurture its best home-grown coaches.Ben Cairns (Currie Head Coach and Scotland under-18 Assistant Coach), Ross Miller (BT Sport Academy Skills Coach and former Melrose Development Officer), Nikki Walker (Hawick Head Coach), Fergus Pringle (East Lothian Development Officer and former Currie Assistant Coach), Colin Sangster (Dundee HSFP Head Coach and former Scotland age-grade), Scott Forrest (Ayr Assistant Coach and former Scotland Women 7s coach), will all embark on the qualification.Scottish Rugby’s Coach Development manager, Neil Graham, said: “This course will provide an opportunity for Scotland’s top up and coming coaches to accelerate their development.Last year’s group of coaches which includes Edinburgh Rugby’s Stevie Scott and Kenny Murray from Glasgow Warriors, have made a successful start to their UKCC Level 4 qualification. “Edinburgh Napier University has first-class expertise in talent development, psychology and leadership, all of which are essential ingredients for coaching at a performance level.We’re delighted to have them and sportscotland on board, as we seek to enhance the development opportunities available to talented Scottish coaches.”The course will be delivered at Edinburgh Napier University’s Sighthill campus, the home of the BT Sport Scottish Rugby Academy, Edinburgh.For existing coaches in the Scottish game, RugbyRight, Scottish Rugby’s player welfare and safety standard online training course is currently available to complete. The online training course, rolled out in season 2015/16, has already educated over 1,500 coaches and match officials, raising awareness of safe practices and ensuring that the environments in which coaches operate have player welfare at their centre.RugbyRight is now hosted on Scottish Rugby Coach Development’s new online Training Hub. In partnership with Hive Learning, the Training Hub is available for Scottish coaches and match officials with information focused on coach development, strength & conditioning, match officials and player welfare.Since launching in May this year, over 2600 coaches and match officials are accessing the new Training Hub, where there are over 300 pages and 200 videos available to view, via the Apple iOS app or any internet enabled mobile device (iPhone & iPad).Visit www.scottishrugby.org/coaching to discover more about UKCC Level 4, RugbyRight, the Scottish Rugby Training Hub and other coaching opportunities in Scotland.
