Scotland 7s pushed to the limit in Glasgow Uni fitness challenge
Scotland 7s players Chris Dean and Neil Herron were at Glasgow University’s Stevenson gym today promoting the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s (Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 May). The players were challenging gym members to see how long they could hold the plank for and how many push-ups they could do in a minute.Though the players’ fitness was impressive ahead of the eighth leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series at Scotstoun Stadium in 10 days time, there were some uber-fit gym members who gave them a run of their money. For the push-ups, Chris Dean set a benchmark of 79 in one minute and was closely contested by Iyare Nehikhare who missed his record by one, with 78.In the plank, Neil Herron was looking strongest out of the players and he initially set a four minute 15 seconds target to beat. However, this exercise seemed to be a bit of a speciality among the female members with student Hazel and trainer April Logan smashing his time with four minutes 30 seconds and six minutes respectively.Sevens in the City – Saturday 27 April – St Enoch’s SquareOn Saturday (27 April, 12 noon-4pm), the build-up to the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s will continue with 11 players in Glasgow city centre, next to St Enoch’s underground station at the bottom of Buchanan Street taking part in a fun taster event, suitable for all the family from 12 noon-4pm.There will be inflatables, music, dancers and a chance to gather autographs and meet the players at the Sevens in the City event.
