The result stands the Scots in good stead ahead of their encounter with Fiji later today. The Hong Kong Sevens differs from the other seven events in the IRB Sevens World Series, as it is played over three days with 24 teams competing in six pools rather than 16 teams in four pools, as is the norm. Therefore in Hong Kong, the top side from each pool goes through to the cup with the two best placed runners up joining them to form the quarter-finals. If Scotland beat Fiji they will automatically qualify for the cup but if not, this morning’s result should leave them well placed to grab on of the two remaining spots. Scotland 7s coach Stephen Gemmell said: “It was a good result but we were disappointed we lost those three tries to Sri Lanka, we’re hoping that they won’t count against us later. We play Fiji later today so we need to keep our organisation and see what happens against them.” Scotland’s tries were scored by Mike Adamson (2), Graham Hogg (2), Scott Forrest (2), Roddy Grant (1), Jamie Hunter (1) and Max Evans (1). Adamson added two conversions while Hogg added a third.
