This award, presented by sportscotland, is in recognition of our commitment to provide equality of access and opportunity to take part in rugby for all groups in Scottish society, regardless of race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief, age or social background. The Equity standard was previously piloted with 12 Scottish governing bodies and Scottish Rugby is the first outwith this pilot to achieve Foundation level. Scottish Rugby Union President Andy Irvine said: “This award is the first step to making rugby the sport of choice for individuals and groups in all parts of the community in Scotland. “We recognise that Scotland and Scots are changing and we are determined to play our full part in helping our country to become a fairer, more inclusive, nation. “In short, nowhere is off limits to our sport.” Julia Bracewell OBE, chair of sportscotland, said: “Our congratulations go to Scottish Rugby for not only achieving the Foundation level but also being the first non-pilot Scottish sport so to do.” The next target for Scottish Rugby is to achieve the Preliminary level of the standard and we will work with sportscotland to reach that goal.
