Scottish Rugby backs Women’s Sport Week
Scottish Rugby is fully supporting Women’s Sport Week 2016 and will be highlighting how women across Scotland are involved in rugby both on and off the pitch. Scottish clubs are also welcoming new and returning players to free sessions throughout the week for women and girls who have thought about trying rugby and those who want to get back into it.Women and girls can also sign up on scottishrugby.org to kick start their involvement in what is a unique game for all shapes, sizes and abilities. There are plenty of ways to get involved from coaching to refereeing and volunteering as well as playing. In its second year, Women’s Sport Week runs from 3-9 October and aims to celebrate, raise awareness and increase the profile of women’s sport across the UK. It’s about getting more women and girls involved in sport while also providing an opportunity to showcase our female athletes who are at the top of their game.Scottish Rugby will be profiling inspiring women including Livingston Rugby Club President Lee Anne Steel, young referee Hollie Davidson and Scotland Women captain Lisa Martin among others.Scotland’s first full-time female player Jade Konkel will be answering questions from fans via Twitter and Facebook and we’ll also hear from Scottish Rugby’s Head of Women & Girl’s Rugby Sheila Begbie on new initiatives to grow the game.Begbie said: Scottish Rugby is proud to support Women’s Sport Week, which is a fantastic opportunity to increase participation and awareness of women’s rugby and sport in general. It’s exciting to see women’s rugby increasing in popularity in Scotland with more teams and competitions established this season across all levels of the game. It is a truly inclusive sport and Scottish Rugby is focused on providing opportunities for women and girls to be involved from the pitch to the board room, whether that be through playing, coaching, refreering or volunteering. Don’t forget to head along to a club near you and give rugby a try. Take a friend and find out why women and girls across Scotland love rugby.Try women’s & girls rugby eventsMonday 3 OctoberStirling University Stirling University (Airthrey Pitches) | 4pm-5.30pm Age group: Students Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @SUWRFC2015Ayr Ladies Millbrae, Ayr | 6.30pm Age group: Seniors Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @AyrRugbyLadies Gala Vixens Netherdale, Galashiels | 7pm-8.30pm Age group: U18 & seniors Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @GalaRFCWest of Scotland Burnbrae, Milngavie | 7pm-8.30pm Age group: Senior Contact: [email protected] University Women BT Murrayfield Stadium (Back Pitches) | 8.30pm-9.30pm Age group: Students Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @NapierWRLivingston Livingston Rugby Club, Almond Park | 7pm-8pm Age group: Senior Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @LivingstonRFCTuesday 4 OctoberOban Lorne Oban Lorne Rugby Club | 6pm-7.30pm Age group: Senior Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @ObanLorneLadiesHowe of Fife (Howe Harlequins) Duffus Park, Cupar | 6.30pm-8pm Age group: 12-18 Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @HoweHarlequinsBroughton Ladies 109 Granton Road, Edinburgh | 7pm-8.30pm Age group: Senior Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @broughtonrugby Annan Warriors Violetbank, Annan | 7pm-8.30pm Age group: Senior Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @AnnanWarriorsBanff Duff House Gardens, Banff | 7pm-8.30pm Age group: all ages Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @Banff_RFC Melrose Rugby Annay Road, Melrose | 7pm Age group: Senior Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @melroserugbyWatsonians Craiglockhart Playing Fields, Edinburgh | 7pm Age group: U18 & senior Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @wwrugbyladiesWednesday 5 OctoberKelso LadiesPoynder Park | 6-7pmAge group: Primary 4-seniorContact: [email protected] Vixens Netherdale, Galashiels | 6pm-7.30pm Age group: U12 and U15 Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @GalaRFCCartha Queens Park Ladies Rugby 92 Dumbreck Rd, Glasgow | 6.45pm-8.15pm Age group: Seniors Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @CarthaLadiesAnnan Hornets Violetbank, Annan | 6pm-7.30pm Age group: U12, U15 & U18 Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @AnnanRugby Angus Girls Montrose Rugby Club | 6.30pm-7.30pm Age group: Primary 4 – U15 Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @Angusgirlsrugby Aberdeen Wanderers The Jason White Pavillion, Groats Road | 6.30pm-8pm Age group: 12-18 year olds Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @aberdeenwanderers Stirling County Bridgehaugh, Stirling | 6.30pm-8.30pm Age group: U15 Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @scrfcgirls Hillhead/Jordanhill Hillhead Sports Club, Glasgow | 6pm-7pm Age group: 10-18 year olds Hillhead Sports Club | 7pm-8.30pm Age group: Seniors Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @hilljillsrugby Grangemouth Stagettes Ladies Grangemouth Rugby Club | 7pm-8.30pm Age group: Seniors Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @staggettesrugby Falkirk Falkirk Rugby Club | 7pm-8pm Age group: Seniors Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @FalkirkRFC Kirkcaldy Beveridge Park | 6pm-7pm Age group: 12-18 year olds Beveridge Park | 7pm-8.30pm Age group: Seniors Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @kirkcaldyrugbyThursday 6 OctoberMurrayfield Wanderers BT Murrayfield Stadium (Back Pitches) | 6.45pm-8.15pm Age group: Seniors Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @wandiesladiesXV Garioch Ladies Kellands Park, Inverurie | 7pm-9pm Age group: Seniors Contact: [email protected] Twitter/Facebook: Garioch Ladies Oban Lorne Oban Lorne Rugby Club | 6pm-7.30pm Age group: Seniors Contact: [email protected] Howe of Fife (Howe Harlequins) Duffus Park, Cuper | 6.30pm-8pm Age group: 12-18 year olds Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @HoweHarlequins Stirling University Stirling University (Airthrey Pitches) | 4pm-5.30pm Age group: Students Contact: [email protected] Twitter: @SUWRFC2015MONDAY 9 OCTOBERWigntownshire LadiesWigtownshire rugby club, Stranraer | 7pmAge group: 16 years-seniorContact: [email protected] @Scotlandteam on Twitter and like Scottish Rugby on Facebook to stay up to date with the latest during #WSW16.
