County are the first club to announce their first set of Super6 signings as they prepare for a new era in the top-tier of domestic rugby in Scotland.

It was confirmed that Andrew Goudie, Andrew McLean, Billy Dineen, Logan Trotter, James Pow and Reyner Kennedy have all put pen to paper. All six of the signings were players at the club last season.

Of the signings Head Coach Ben Cairns commented “It’s great to have the first six players announced. From the beginning our priority has been to assess the players already at the club and secure the guys we believe have the potential to excel at Super6, today’s announcement is a reflection of this.

“All six of the players announced today still have their best rugby years in front of them and I am really looking forward to working with them to achieve their goals.”

Andrew Goudie

Cairns said “Andrew Goudie was one of the most consistent players for the club last season. He is a very talented ball player who could play in a few positions in our backline, however we have signed him primarily as a 10. He’s an excellent trainer and his game has developed massively since coming to County. We look forward to continuing that development at Super6 level.”

On signing, the 23-year-old commented, “I’m really happy to be signing on with Stirling County for the inaugural Super6 season. I’m looking forward to getting started and the challenges that lie ahead”

Andrew McLean

Cairns said, “I first coached Andy with Scotland U18s in 2016-17 where he was one of our best performers at the festival in Wales. He’s had a frustrating spell with injuries, but we are hopeful he can now kick on with a good run of fitness. He’s an excellent outside back option, comfortable at 13 or on the wing. He’s got quality feet and offloading ability and could be a real game breaker for us.”

The 20-year-old commented “Having come through the Stirling youth setup, it’s a great honour to sign with them for Super6 and I’m very excited about the new format of the season.”

Billy Dineen

Cairns said, “Billy is still relatively young for a prop. He’s had a fair amount of change in his life in the last year, but he’s in a good place now and we are looking forward to seeing the gains he can make with improved support around him. He’s got an excellent frame, carries really well and has masses of potential. We believe he can really thrive in our environment”

The 24-year-old said “I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to be part of the Stirling County Super6 squad and be able to test myself against the best.”

James Pow

Cairns said, “James is an honest, hard-working player who will put his body on the line for the good of the team, which is a pretty good starting point for a lock. He’s another who has come on a lot since joining County and has the attitude to accelerate that development even further at Super6 level.”

Logan Trotter

Cairns said, “Logan has all the qualities to be an excellent back 3 player. He’s tall, very quick, he kicks well and has good handling ability. He still has huge ambition to play pro rugby and Super6 should provide the perfect shop window for him to display his talents”

The 20-year-old said, “I’m very excited to be signing with County and being able to compete in this new exciting competition. I’ve played at the club for the past 15 years, growing up here with everyone and everything that has to do with the club gives me even more drive to push the club and myself to be the best we can be.”

Reyner Kennedy

Cairns said, “Reyner is an excellent set-piece hooker, he is coming back from a long-term injury, so he hasn’t trained with the squad since I came into post. However, he’s shown a real desire to get back fit as quickly as possible, he’s been very diligent with his rehab and has demanded the support he’s required which is exactly what I want from my players. I’ve been hugely impressed with his leadership qualities, he wants County to succeed and I’m really looking forward to working with him.”

The 25-year-old commented, “It’s been a tough road to recovery but I’m excited to get back and continue my rugby with County into the Super6 era. I’ve been at the club for 14 years, it’s a great club to be part of and I’m looking forward to the start of the season.”
