Unbeaten Hamilton named BT Club of the Month

Hamilton has been named BT Club of the Month for March for their peerless league form across the board and commitment to rugby development.

The club enjoyed an unbeaten March for all three of their men’s teams with their first XV recording three bonus point victories to keep them in the hunt for promotion to BT National League Division 1.

The women’s side made history by claiming their first ever victory in the national development leagues having been formed in 2017 following the success of the club’s Tartan Touch programme.

Hamilton President Iain Leggate said: “We are delighted to have been named BT Club of the Month for March after some great performances from all our sides.

“Everyone at the club puts in a lot of hard work to ensure that the teams at all levels can train, play and enjoy their rugby.

“It has been a good season at the club and we are very proud of what we continue to achieve.”

Hamilton’s youth section has at least one boys’ team playing at every age group and continues to increase in size with over 260 young people now playing at different levels.

The club’s Development Officer Alan Falconer works regularly with local schools to further strengthen community ties and ensure the ongoing success of the youth programme.

The positive effect of this work has been keenly felt by the club as a majority of their playing senior squad is now drawn from players who have previously been through their age grade teams.

Off the pitch their community work stretches beyond rugby development with players and members regularly working with a number of charities in fundraising and volunteering roles.

Hamilton are also in the process of updating their facilities, raising funds to ensure that their matches are accessible to all fans.

The BT Club of the Month award celebrates on-pitch performance, discipline and rugby development.

To win, a club does not have to be the best in all three areas, but should show a successful balance, with potential for long-term growth.

Clubs receive £200 plus a 12 month commercial BT Sport subscription for their clubhouse.

Winning clubs will also be nominated for BT Club of the Season at the annual Club Awards Dinner at BT Murrayfield.
