Wassell draws Brewin Dolphin Girls Cup
Scotland Women’s six times capped lock, Emma Wassell, today made the draw of the preliminary and quarter-final rounds of the Brewin Dolphin Scottish Girls Cup competitions. In the senior competition, defending champions Murrayfield Wanderers will meet the Community School of Auchterarder on the back pitches at BT Murrayfield, while a west-coast derby between Hillhead Jordanhill and a Cumnock/Carrick composite school team takes place at Hughenden. Last year’s runners-up Ayr travel to meet Oban High School in the quarter-finals, while Caithness await the winner of Biggar and Ellon who go head-to-head in the preliminary round.Local derbiesIn the larger under-15 tournament some interesting ties emerged in the eight-team prelim-round. The closest geographically will be a local derby match between Ayr and Carrick Academy at Millbrae. Also battling it out in the prelim-rounds are Plockton High School against Community School of Auchterarder, Biggar versus Balfron High School and Lothian Wanderers against Falkirk High School. In the quarter-finals, RHC Cougars welcome Hillhead Jordanhill to East Barnton, Oban High School play either Plockton High School or Community School of Auchterarder and Caithness await the winner of Lothian Wanderers and Falkirk High School. The last quarter-final will see the winner of Ayr versus Carrick Academy face that of Biggar and Balfron High School. Scottish Rugby’s Women and Girls Rugby Development Manager, Sarah Quick, said: The Brewin Dolphin Scottish Schools Girls competitions are always very exciting and competitive and Emma [Wassell] has drawn some brilliant ties in the opening rounds.These tournaments are the pinnacle of girls rugby in Scotland and with three trophies (Cup, Shield and Bowl) up for grabs at both age-groups it gives every team something to play for.”The next round of the boys’ Brewin Dolphin Scottish Schools Shield and Plate competitions have also been drawn today, see further below.
