Comments from the Coaches:

Eddie Pollock (Stirling Wolves) said:

“Everyone in the squad is looking forward to the challenge that the Glasgow Warriors A squad will bring to Bridgehaugh. The addition of the two pro sides to the Super Series has been a fantastic boost to the quality of rugby in the competition.

“Warriors had a big win against Bears last week after a first week loss to Ayrshire Bulls and will be looking to stamp their authority on the game in the early stages.

“We have shown over our first two Super Series matches against Bears and the Bulls that we are a fit, physical, talented side but we will need another step up again tonight in all areas if we are to compete effectively.”

Pete Horne (Glasgow Warriors A) said:

“We were really pleased with certain aspects of our game last weekend. We were clinical, especially in the first half, and while the second half was a bit messier there were some standout performances.

“Our back-row overall was excellent with Gregor Brown picking up Player of the Match, and Ben Salmon has been excellent since coming into the team.

“We know we’ll face a tough test tomorrow night, but we’re looking forward to the challenge and want to finish our involvement in the Super Series on a high.”

Comments from the Coaches:

Graham Shiel (Boroughmuir Bears) said:

“Last week, we were outplayed by Glasgow Warriors ‘A’ at Meggetland which is never easy on your first home fixture of the season.

“Again, our focus remains on improving individually and collectively in an effort to improve as a squad and continue to build momentum going forward. Bulls are a very strong squad with a great mixture of experience and young talent with physicality to challenge any team in the competition, so we will be tested to our limits this weekend again!

“Our aim at the Bears remains consistent. We are looking to make improvements in our performance, enabling us to become more competitive at this level.”

Pat MacArthur (Ayrshire Bulls) said:

“This is our first competitive fixture away from home and it will be important for us to show that we can put up a good performance on the road.

“We see a number of changes this week with Eli Caven and Richie Simpson unavailable which means Antony Fitch gets a start off the bench and Luca Bardelli moves to fullback. Scott Watson also comes into the squad hoping to make his debut on the bench.

“Boroughmuir will have a point to prove after their recent results and they are a team that like to move the ball so we will need to be at our best.”

Comments from the Coaches:

Ben Cairns (Heriot’s Rugby) said:

“Another home match and another tough test at the start of this Sprint Series campaign. Watsonians have started in good form. They will have been disappointed with the final result against Edinburgh A last time out but they matched a very strong Edinburgh side for long portions of that game. They have a pretty settled group with a clear way of playing and I am sure will travel to Goldie determined to get back to winning ways.

“For us, we have been really pleased with the progress the squad has made and Saturday’s match will provide another measure of just how far we’ve come. We were happy with large parts of our game versus Southern Knights, however we know we will need to create more pressure and harness momentum better than we managed to last week if we are to get anything from this match.”

Stevie Scott (Watsonians) said:

After a tough physical game last week against a good Edinburgh A Team, we were disappointed with the result. However, the boys have worked really hard this week to address some areas that let us down last week. We created opportunities, but our execution wasn’t the standard it needs to be against quality teams.

“This is our first away game of the season for us this week as we travel across to Goldenacre for the Edinburgh derby. Heriot’s will be in good spirits after a good result last week against Southern Knights. Ben will be looking to build on that result. We are under no illusion of how tough this fixture will be, but we are very much looking forward to testing ourselves against a good Heriot’s team.”

Comments from the Coaches:

Alan Tait  (Southern Knights) said:

“We’ve had a few difficult away trips to start the season and games don’t get much bigger than this.

“It’s going to be a great challenge for the group, both physically and mentally and the boys are really excited for the first home game. We can’t wait to get out there, especially in front of our home fans in what we expect will be a really exciting fixture.”

Rob Chrystie (Edinburgh Rugby A) said:

“Our final team of the Super Series Sprint is a mix of young academy pros, guest players from the Scottish game, and a sprinkling of senior professional players as well.

“We’ve really enjoyed our involvement in the competition, we’ve had two great matches and more importantly two opportunities to meet with our partnership clubs and build that relationship.

“It’s exciting for us to be able to bring a capital side to the borders, and on a personal note I’m looking forward to having a match against my old side!”
