Highland Rugby – Secondary School Leagues Review
The Highland Rugby development team set up an S1/2 and under-16 league structure to offer the schools of the north the opportunity to play regular competitive rugby. With the leagues open to all schools it wasn’t long until six signed up for the new venture – three from Inverness and three from across the Highlands.The S1/2 league kicked off in November with Millburn, Plockton, IRA, Grantown Grammar and Culloden Academy all vying to be the first winners of the new League.The Highland Rugby development team set up an S1/2 and under-16 league structure to offer the schools of the north the opportunity to play regular competitive rugby. With the leagues open to all schools it wasn’t long until six signed up for the new venture – three from Inverness and three from across the Highlands.The S1/2 league kicked off in November with Millburn, Plockton, IRA, Grantown Grammar and Culloden Academy all vying to be the first winners of the new League, however, after many hotly contested games throughuot, it was Scottish Widows Bank Rugby Champion Iain Dunbar’s Culloden Academy side who walked away with the title.With the S1/2 league providing some great rugby it was up to the under-16 to continue the sporting spectacle, Kingussie High School replacing Millburn at this age-grade.All the teams stepped up to the mark set by their young counterparts with some exceptional rugby being played, the IRA however were the strongest over the piece and went home with the trophy.
