Hoy will be a guest of Scottish Rugby at the opening Bank of Scotland Corporate Autumn Test. He will be joined by fellow Scottish Beijing medallist, canoeist David Florence. A stand-off in his school days at George Watson’s College in Edinburgh, Hoy’s feats in the velodrome have earned him a special place in the affections of the Murrayfield crowd. Following his silver medal at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Hoy was among the medallists invited to a parade at the home of Scottish Rugby. Fast forward six years and (with an Athens Olympic gold already in his possession and the acclaim of the Murrayfield crowd once more) his gold and bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, meant Hoy was again at the heart of celebrations as Scotland supporters at Murrayfield cheered him to the rooftops during the match against the Barbarians. Scotland coach Frank Hadden said: Chris Hoy is the standard-bearer for excellence, commitment and dedication in Scottish sport and I’m delighted he will be at Murrayfield for our game against New Zealand. I’m sure our supporters will wish to show their appreciation for Chris’s most recent success, his three gold medals at Beijing, as the Scotland team aims to emulate his ability to inspire the nation. Hoy said: I’m looking forward to being at Murrayfield. It’s a special place when the crowd are roaring on Scotland.
