Hillhead Jordanhill secure Tennent’s Women’s Premier League title
Hillhead Jordanhill women’s team won the Tennent’s Women’s Premier League at the weekend after their victory at home against Stirling County RFC.
The Glasgow side have been the team to beat the whole season as they locked down six wins from six.
On Sunday, the pressure was on Stirling County RFC to keep the league open. It was a hard fought and physical match in which the home team took the advantage first with a try from captain Louise McMillan. Stirling County answered with a try of their own from Andrea Gaffney shortly after.
The second half saw Hillhead Jordanhill score four unanswered tries through Abi Evans, Mairi McDonald, and Emma Barlow followed by a second try from skipper Louise McMillan making the final score 29-5.
This win secured the team the league top spot, with a match in hand. Their opposition this weekend are Watsonian FC, who despite winning their last two matches cannot overtake Hillhead Jordanhill in the final league table.
Hillhead Jordanhill captain, Louise McMillan, said “I’m incredibly proud of what the girls have achieved this season. This season, more than any I’ve played, has seen us lose some key players and we have had new girls step up their responsibility. Although not all of our wins have been pretty, we’ve shown our determination for every victory.
“We’ve demanded a very high standard of ourselves from day one and this has pushed us on to play better and better every game.
“This team is still very much building and we are excited to head into the cup”.
