Aspiring Coaching Programme
The Aspiring Coaching programme is available to all coaches of mini, youth and adult rugby who have completed the entry level Coaching Essentials course (or UKCC Level 1) or, have over 3 years of coaching experience, or is a qualified PE teacher. Coaches must be minimum 18 years of age to complete the course and must be actively coaching within a club or school.
Course Outline
The Aspiring Coaching programme is a 2 day practical course that aims to equip coaches with practical coaching skills and tools to enhance their coaching and the player experience, covering the following key areas:
- Skill acquisition and decision making
- Observation and feedback skills
- Creating the right environment
- Technical Blueprint ‘The Scottish Way’
- Reflective practice

Pre-Course Modules
All coaches must have completed the following before attending the course:
- RugbyRight
- RugbyRight:Safeguarding (MUST be completed by all coaches and match officials working with U18’s or below)
Costs
In conjunction with sportscotland, Scottish Rugby is able to subsidise the course cost for those coaches and teachers working within our member and associate clubs, schools and universities to grow the game at a price of £80.
