18 & 19 Sept Tennent’s Leagues 2021/22 | Gallery

Tennent’s Premiership and National Leagues

We start this week’s gallery with some shots from the Edinburgh Academical’s fixture against Musselburgh in the Men’s Tennent’s Premiership, which saw the visitors sneak a three point victory 28-31.

In the Women’s Tennent’s Premiership competition, Stirling County secured their first win of the season over Cartha Queen’s Park. Five individual tries were scored by Stirling from Kirsty Wilson, Orla Proctor, Sarah Murdoch, Fi Keys and Heather Davis. Full time score, 25-12.

Garioch Women have maintained their winning-streak in Round 3 of Tennent’s National 1, with a 33-12 win over Howe of Fife. The Inverurie-based team now sit second in the table following newcomers West of Scotland.

A traveling Stewart’s Melville collected a bonus point win against Kirkcaldy in the Tennent’s National 2 competition. Full time score, 16-35.

Finally, in Tennent’s National 3 last week just two points separated Murrayfield Wanderers and Berwick, but the Edinburgh-based hosts took the win 12-10. Inside centre Fionnlagh Call scored all 12 of the Wanderers’ points in penalty-kicks.

Tennent’s East Leagues

In the Tennent’s East Division 2, a very entertaining fixture took place between Penicuik and Langholm. After just 10 minutes of play, Penicuik took a 15 point lead however, Langholm came back into the game scoring four tries, and it looked like the visitors would sneak the win. It was a late Penicuik penalty-kick which drew the sides level at 24 points each for full time.

Across at Inverleith Park, Edinburgh Northern welcomed Lismore 1XV in the Tennent’s East Division 3. Just one point separated the teams at half time, but the hosts took the win with a final score of 34-21.

Newcomers to the Tennent’s East/Midlands league, it was all to play for between Strathmore and the Dundee Valkyries. Just two points separated the teams at half time, but Dundee had the edge in the end picking up a few more tries to leave with the bonus point win. Full time score, 17-31.

Elsewhere in the Tennent’s East/Midlands league, Lismore hosted Livingston at Inch Park, where the visitors claimed their first win of the season, 0-45.

Tennent’s Caledonia Leagues

Moray RFC are three from three after beating Ross Sutherland by a narrow five points on Saturday, 15-20. Securing 10 points from his boot, Moray stand-off Rory Miller was named Player of the Match. Moray now sit top of the table in Tennent’s Caledonia North Division 2 after three rounds.

In Tennent’s Caledonia Midlands Division 3, Grangemouth Stags 2XV played their first fixture in their campaign winning 21-48 against Rosyth Sharks.

Elsewhere in Caledonia Midlands Division 3, Dundee 2XV were back at McKane Park to face Dunfermline 2XV. The match was fiercely contested by the two teams, but Dundee walked away with the win, 31-38. Dundee winger Cailean Baird-Chalmers scored a hat-trick of tries and added a further eight points to the board in conversions, making him the top points scorer of the match.

Also playing in Caledonian Midlands Division 3, Waid Academy snuck a win over Bannockburn 1XV with just two points in it. Full time score, 24-22.

Tennent’s West Leagues

Returning to the Tennent’s West league, Oban Lorne welcomed Greenock Wanderers to Glencruitten in their opening fixture of the season. The hosts game out on top, winning 26-16.

In Tennent’s West Division 2, Strathaven secured their third win of the season against Dalziel, 40-33. They are now top of the table, 5 points clear.
