Admiring Garnock RC’s Support

Christmas was not over just yet…as Garnock Rugby Club share their holiday funds with local charities.

After two extremely challenging years for everyone, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the North Ayrshire based club very kindly donated £2,000 to the Bridgend Cancer Support Group.

Prior to the home fixture game on 15 January 2022 – where Garnock beat Carrick 45 to 7 – the team presented the cheque to Bridgend Group Member, Gill Astin.

The small charity – Bridgend Cancer Support Group – allows diagnosed cancer patients to get support within the comfort of others in similar circumstances.

Club President, Dave Perry said: “Most charities rely on fundraising and donations, and with the effects of covid money has been a concern for most people. Especially for charities, as they haven’t been able to carry out their own fundraising events, so as a team we felt it was an opportunity for us to give back.

“Every year we have our annual Christmas raffle and it’s one of our main fundraisers for the club, and in the past the money has been kept by the club. However, in the last couple of years with covid we know how difficult it’s been for all charities, so we felt as a team we should be sharing our collection from the raffle with a couple of charities.’’

Garnock’s giving spirit hasn’t stopped there as they are donating a further £2,000 to the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation through fundraising activities.

Dave, who is currently in his first season as Club President, added: “It means an awful lot to me being a part of a such a caring group, we pride ourselves on being a ‘family’ felt club – everyone is close and gets on very well with looking out for each other in these difficult times; so, I’m very proud to be a member of Garnock Rugby Club.’’
