Comments from the Coaches:

Eddie Pollock (Stirling Wolves) said:

“I was delighted by the power, accuracy, and attitude of our players in last week’s excellent win against the Futures. The quality of our passing and strong running lines asked some really difficult questions of the opposition, and we will look to continue this exciting brand of rugby against Heriot’s, who are the form team in the league.

“We are looking forward to the challenge Heriot’s will pose. They are well organized, have a very strong lineout and offer serious threats in attack across their team. However, Bridgehaugh brings out the best in this group of Wolves and we will be fully focused to put in a performance to the home crowd will be proud of.”

Ben Cairns (Heriot’s Rugby) said:

“Having taken the scalp of the league leaders on Saturday, the challenges come thick and fast at the moment. Travelling to Bridgehaugh to take on a hungry Wolves side who will have quality players back and are fresh from a resounding win on Friday night is arguably an even sterner test for us.

“We’ve recovered as well as we can from our exploits on Saturday and whilst this is a huge match for Stirling Wolves it is also a massive match for ourselves with the chance to go back to the top of the table and create some daylight between the top two and the rest.

“Both teams play a very similar style. Both like to play off quick ball and stretch the opposition. It should be a very entertaining match and will ultimately come down to who is able to get closest to their peak performance on the day.”

Comments from the Coaches:

Pat McArthur (Ayrshire Bulls) said:

“After a disappointing result last week we need to win the next two games to secure a home semi-final. The players know they must step up a gear and can’t afford to make the same mistakes.

“At training we focused on getting the details right, we know that Boroughmuir Bears will bring a fast expansive game, with players like Kaleem Barreto and Mason Cullen we’ll have to be switched on and ensure our defence is 100%.”

Graham Shiel (Boroughmuir Bears) said:

“We have a tough task ahead this week, travelling away to Millbrae to play the Ayrshire Bulls is always a difficult place to go and at this stage in our season it will be no exception.

“Bulls are a consistent group having been very much at the forefront of Super Series rugby, so we will be looking to find ways to compete with the Bulls game and challenge ourselves in all facets of the game.

“As always, our aim is to be the best we can be, which we appreciate in this competition if you fall below that standard, you become vulnerable so tomorrow evening will be a real test for the Bears group. We have a chance to get back in the saddle and work to make improvements in our game, regardless of our place in the league and there is always room for improvement.”

Comments from the Coaches:

Nikki Walker (Watsonians) said:

“Stirling Wolves are one of two teams who got the better of us in the first half of the competition so we know the challenge ahead. Stirling Wolves are a well-organised and dangerous team that I am sure are not completely happy with their current league standings.

“Therefore, we expect a very difficult challenge this week as they try to climb into the play-off position. Everyone has been very focused in training over the last 2 weeks knowing we are approaching the climax of the season and with a full understanding of what we need to do to achieve our season objective.”

Eddie Pollock (Stirling Wolves) said:

“We come in to our third game in nine days with one win and one loss for our efforts so far. Watsonians at Myreside is another big test and we will need to perform much better than we did against the leaders Heriot’s on Wednesday to pick up any points on offer.

“The crowd should be in for another physical, entertaining encounter with the competition for a semi-finals spot really heating up with ourselves, Watsonians and Southern Knights in the mix, and all to play for in the next fortnight.”

Comments from the Coaches:

Ben Cairns (Heriot’s Rugby) said:

“We were really pleased with how the squad fronted up midweek versus Wolves and will be looking for the same attitude going into Sunday’s match. With a lot of competition for places and us coming into the business end of the season we expect the selected players to take their opportunity to impress.

“The Futures have had a tough season in terms of results but there have been some clear improvements over the piece. With some big names back for them this week and much closer to their strongest side we know we will have to maintain our recent standards of performance if we are to get anything from the match.”

Scott Forrest (FOSROC Future XV) said:

“Friday was a disappointing result against the Wolves and we know as a group we have to see an improvement in our individual and collective performances this weekend. We had started to build on some encouraging performances in previous weeks but feel like we let ourselves down against the Wolves. We now look ahead to a consistent run of games which we know will help us build some much needed consistency in our performances.

“Heriot’s are setting the bar right now in the league and are playing some excellent rugby. We know we will have to front up physically this Sunday to give us the chance of competing and are hopeful we will see a positive response from the young group of players.”
