Scotland v Fiji

Saturday 2 November, kick-off 5.40pm, Scottish Gas Murrayfield

The first visitors to Scottish Gas Murrayfield this November are the Flying Fijians, synonymous with entertaining rugby, outrageous skills sets and unpredictable performances.

It’s always an entertaining game against the popular South Sea Islanders – Scotland scored four tries the last time the Fiji came to Scottish Gas Murrayfield courtesy of tries from George Turner, Adam Hastings, Duhan van der Merwe and Ben White. The two sides first played each other in 1982 and have met a further ten times since then – including once in a Rugby World Cup – with Fiji winning on two occasions (both in Fiji). This will be the sixth time Scotland and Fiji have met in Edinburgh, with the hosts winning on each of the previous five occasions.

Fiji, currently ranked just outside the world Top 10 of World Rugby’s rankings (11th) famously beat England at Twickenham in the build-up to last year’s Rugby World Cup before before being knocked out at the quarter-final stage of the tournament itself having beaten Australia in the pool stages. With ‘Big’ Bill Mata soon to move on from Edinburgh Rugby, this November’s showdown will provide the chance for Scottish supporters to once more see Bill and many of his fellow great entertainers in the Fiji side take to the Scottish Gas Murrayfield pitch.

A fantastic game to kick off this year’s Autumn Nations Series.
