They saw their heroes in a very different setting from Murrayfield Stadium as key players in the national team feature in an exciting and new marketing campaign alongside the most stunning co-star – Scotland. The players, Chris Paterson, Mike Blair, Jason White, Kelly Brown, Ross Ford, Al Kellock, Dan Parks, Graeme Morrison, Andrew Henderson and Allister Hogg, have been out and about in some iconic locations in different parts of the country – revealing Scotland in all its glory – to shoot five ads that will form the centrepiece of Scottish Rugby’s marketing campaign for the next two years. They will be shown online and through emails to supporters, who also played a part in the campaign’s genesis. The ads will help to raise interest in rugby, showcasing the players and Scotland. Last week, supporters traversing the Pass of Glencoe did a double take as they saw four Scotland forwards filming for the campaign. One supporter from Inverness stopped her bike to get autographs for her sons; another supporter, from Stirling, brought her tour bus to a nearby lay-by and waited for a break for some photographs (extending Scottish Rugby’s popularity to Norway while she was at it); and another supporter, from Kinross, grabbed a ball from his boot and got some signatures. The results of the campaign will be unveiled in stages over the next two years with the first ad – linking in with granite – being launched to mark the start of this year’s Bank of Scotland Corporate Autumn Tests, where Scotland will play their match against Canada in Aberdeen, renowned the world over as the Granite City. Jason White, who spent much of his formative years in Aberdeen, is the star of this ad. Location filming took place at Dunnet Bay, east of Thurso in Caithness and the outcome, which will be revealed next month, is spectacular. Again, supporters out for a stroll along the golden sands couldn’t quite believe what they were seeing. Our picture shows Jason with three players from the Caithness club, scrum-half Kris Hamilton; his fellow 18-year-old, back-row Grant Anderson; and wing Kris Gove (17), who helped out with the filming.
