Glasgow’s Hefin O’Hare was the only man to cross the line for Scotland in the Plate semi capping off a disappointing weekend for the Scots. Following the team’s exit from the competition, coach Stephen Gemmell said: “That’s a real low for me in terms of my involvement with Scotland 7s. We’re not going to make excuses. We let the blue jersey down this weekend. “There are five guys in this squad who were with us at the World Cup last year and we folded like a proverbial pack of cards. “The only positive from this experience in that this same group of players, and myself, have an opportunity to go to South Africa next week and lift ourselves back up.” Starting team v Wales: David Tait (Sale Sharks), Scott Forrest* CAPTAIN, Stuart McInally (Watsonians)**, Peter Jericevich (Glasgow Hawks)**, Grant Anderson (Ayr)**, Hefin O’Hare (Glasgow Warriors), Andrew Turnbull (Edinburgh)Subs used: James Eddie (Glasgow Warriors), Lee Jones (Selkirk) Starting team v Portugal: James Eddie (Glasgow Warriors), Scott Forrest* CAPTAIN, Hefin O’Hare (Glasgow Warriors), Mike Baxter (Bath), Grant Anderson (Ayr)**, Lee Jones (Selkirk), Andrew Turnbull (Edinburgh)Subs used: Stuart McInally (Watsonians)**, Peter Jericevich (Glasgow Hawks)** Scotland 7s squad to compete at the IRB Sevens World Series events in Dubai (4 & 5 December) and George, South Africa (11 & 12 December): Scott Forrest* CAPTAIN, Mike Adamson*, Grant Anderson (Ayr)**, Mike Baxter (Bath), James Eddie (Glasgow Warriors), Peter Jericevich (Glasgow Hawks)**, Lee Jones (Selkirk), Stuart McInally (Watsonians)**, Hefin O’Hare (Glasgow Warriors), Colin Shaw*, David Tait (Sale Sharks), Andrew Turnbull (Edinburgh) * = Fulltime Scotland 7s player.** = Member of Scottish Rugby’s Contracted National Academy Emirates Airline Dubai Sevens, Pool B: Fiji, Samoa, Scotland, Zimbabwe Scotland 7s’ results at the IRB Sevens World Series event in Dubai (4 & 5 December):Day One, Pool B game 1: Fiji 47, Scotland 12Day One, Pool B game 2: Samoa 36, Scotland 7Day One, Pool B game 3: Scotland 17, Zimbabwe 17Day Two: Plate semi-final: Scotland 5, Portugal 29Day Two: Bowl quarter-final: Wales 19, Scotland 12
