And we’re off!  Scotland force the first error from Argentina and get the scrum, Lawson clears but Morrison runs into trouble in the shape of a wall of blue and white. After more activity in the Argentina half, they concede another scrum to Scotland through a knock-on. Scotland make the line break through Evans but lose possession and Contepomi clears. Gray making his presence felt and another Argentina infringement gives the first penalty attempt to the Scots. Paterson lines up the kick, a tight angle, but it just shaves off to the right. Good running lines and quick ball for Scotland at the restart as they plough upfield but the charge from De Luca is stalled as the rainfall increases with ten minutes gone. Scrappy ball and Argentina take the advantage, pushing around in the 22 and a drop goal attempt goes wide for the Pumas. Contepomi scoops up the loose ball but they’re called back for a scrum. Advantage to Scotland and Jackson clears to touch. Fifteen minutes gone and De Luca penalised for holding on to the ball. Contepomi has the distance but the penalty attempt hits the post. Scotland are called offside after clever play from Fernandez, penalty to Argentina in front of the posts now. This time Contepomi doesn’t miss and Argentina put the first points on the board after 18 minutes (0-3). Play going on around the injured Lobbe, who fell awkwardly and who is sent to the sidelines eventually with blood on his knee, returning for the next scrum. Cross slips and it’s a penalty to Argentina. Rodriguez has the distance but not the direction and the three-point lead stands. Solid numbers from Scotland as they harry the Argentine line now with some great takes from Evans but Scotland lose ball at the contact again. Great take from De Luca knocks the gas out of Rodriguez and Lobbe limps off to be replaced by Fessia. Lineout 5m out from the Argentina line, Lawson to Jackson, to Morrison, to Evans but slow ball sees the action return to Scotland’s half. Roncero has some dispute with Hamilton and Wayne Barnes with the next penalty, to Scotland, as Paterson slams a long-distance effort solidly between the uprights, from distance, after 35 minutes (3-3). Roncero struggling and is replaced by Scelzo. Into the final four minutes with Evans gaining the yards for Scotland. Bosch penalised and Jackson, from distance, lines up the ball. A colossal effort – and he’s got it! (6-3) (38m). His second ever penalty for Scotland and crucial as Scotland go into the break ahead. Half time: Scotland 6-3 Argentina And we’re off again. No further changes to either side. An early drop goal attempt from Argentina goes nowhere. Great opportunity for the blues following a steal on the bounce from Evans again comes to nothing as the ball is turned over. Argentina a man down as Leguizamon struggles with an ankle injury but Scotland fail to take advantage and the ball goes back into Argentine hands. Torrential rain now, playing more into the face of the Argentinians, with blustery gusts haranguing both sides. Scrum to the Pumas after a knock-on from Lamont however it’s Argentina who then win the penalty and kick to touch. A bit of handbags but more of the evening purse variety than rucksacks. Twenty-five minutes to go and still 3-6. Hamilton wins the ball back for Scotland, Argentina’s clearance is charged down by Morrison. Lamont links up well with Morrison and Paterson sees the drop-goal chance but hooks it wide. Nathan Hines now on for Richie Gray. Contepomi lines up another penalty attempt but it veers to the left. Some changes for Scotland. Blair comes on for Lawson and Dickinson is on for Jacobsen at the 60m mark. Wet and windy weather increasing handling errors for the Scots as the ball slips from Paterson’s grasp followed by a slide from Cross in the scrum. Another chance for Contepomi to level the scores and this time he nails it – 6-6 at 62m. From nowhere Jackson sees the drop goal attempt from more than 30m out and it sails between the uprights with 15 minutes to go. 9-6! Minutes later Scotland penalised for holding on and it’s Contepomi from 40m. The ball bounces off the upright and Scotland breathe a massive sigh of relief. Parks replaces Jackson and kicks a massive ball to touch. Hall come on for Ford to make his RWC debut and it’s a lineout at 5m. Penalty coming to Scotland but parks sees his chance and slots a drop goal. 12-6 (71m). It’s edge of your seat stuff as some individual brilliance from Amorosino sees him side-step the Scottish defence and cross the line to make it 12-11. Contempomi takes the conversion to make it 12-13 with seven minutes to go. Jacobsen back on for Cross (75m) and into the last three minutes and the pace remains frantic despite the tired legs and sodden bodies peppering the pitch. A clash of bodies as Brown and Cabello both go for the ball. Both players back up on their feet and Brown is replaced by Vernon (78m). Amorosino spills the ball, lineout for Scotland, pressing on the line with one minute to go, a drop goal attempt for Parks but he misses. 80 minutes, Argentina could have kicked to touch but seem to want to prolong the event. Now into the 83rd minute of play and Scotland still have ball but turned over and Argentina kick out.
