Scotland 7s out to build relationships with fans
23 Apr 2013
This week the Scotland 7s players will be out and about in Glasgow promoting the forthcoming Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 May at Scotstoun Stadium. As well as their game preparations they will be in schools, universities and Glasgow city centre spreading the word about the eighth leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series, which is now just 11 days away. It’s also an opportunity to introduce rugby fans to the excitement and fast-paced nature of the abbreviated game.Scotland 7s captain, Colin Gregor, said: “It’s always good to have an opportunity to boost awareness of sevens rugby and I believe it to be important to build a relationship with the rugby fans in the community that hosts our tournament.”Head coach, Stephen Gemmell, said: “Training is going well at the moment, but it’s important to balance the on field preparations with all the things that are going on off field to support the Glasgow 7s.”Having a home advantage is hugely important to us and to bring international sevens to Glasgow is a privilege. So it’s great to be able to profile the game and our squad in the local community.”The two main events the players will be attending this week are a fitness challenge at Glasgow University’s Stevenson Gym tomorrow (Wednesday 24 April) from 12 noon and Sevens in the City on Saturday (27 May) at St Enoch’s Square.Tomorrow, members of Glasgow University gym will have the chance to take on two Scotland 7s players in a couple of challenges. There will be a leader board and chance to win two pairs of tickets to the Party Stand at the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s.So if you’re in the area come on down and see if you can beat our players.Sevens in the City – St Enoch’s Square – Saturday 27 AprilOn Saturday, 11 players will be in Glasgow city centre, next to St Enoch’s underground station at the bottom of Buchanan Street taking part in a fun taster event, suitable for all the family from 12 noon-4pm.There will be inflatables, music, dancers and a chance to gather autographs and meet the players.
