Ayr first Scottish Rugby under-16 League Champions
9 Dec 2013
Ayr have been crowned as champions of the Scottish Rugby under-16 League in its inaugural year. After battling not only the weather but Falkirk in a 41-13 away win, Ayr completed a clean sweep of their season, winning nine from nine. If the Ayr under-18 team win this coming Saturday (14 December) away to West of Scotland, they will do the double, winning both the Scottish Rugby Junior leagues. The cross-regional leagues were set up in order to provide a more intense competition for teams who were looking to compete at a higher level. Nick Rennie, Scottish Rugby’s Director of Clubs and Schools, said: “We feel that in its first year, the cross-regional Scottish Rugby league system for under-16 and under-18 has been extremely successful.”Most of the fixtures have been fulfilled and a very high standard of rugby has been displayed with the matches proving extremely competitive.”Despite the league fixtures now being completed, there is plenty more youth club rugby to come this season with the National Youth League Cup and Bowl getting underway in January.”
