Scottish Rugby Schools Cup enters quarter-final stages

The Scottish Rugby Schools Cup is now into the quarter-final stages at both under-16 and under-18 level, with both of last year’s finalists in the latter both still in the fray. Colin Thomson, Scottish Rugby’s Head of Youth and Schools, said: “The Scottish Rugby Schools Cup competition is a real breeding ground for the country’s future talent.”The competition always provides a high standard of rugby and some exciting ties, and we’re looking forward to seeing who will progress in the closing stages. “Good luck to all the teams involved.” George Watson’s College, who last year equalled Merchiston Castle School and Dollar Academy’s record of three consecutive title wins, will play city rivals Stewart’s Melville College, in their quarter-final tie.Their opponents in last year’s final, Merchitson Castle School also have an away quarter-final having been drawn against George Heriot’s School. Securing the remaining berths in the last eight is High School of Dundee and Glenalmond College, who will hosts Fettes College and Dollar Academy respectively.One of the under-16 Cup quarter-finals has already taken place, with Stewart’s Melville taking a spot in the last four with a 37-19 victory over The Royal High School.East Lothian state school Preston Lodge High School, will host George Heriot’s School in their quarter-final, as 2013 winners George Watson’s College welcome Galashiels Academy to Myreside.The final quarter-final match will be played between Glenalmond College and Dollar Academy.All games are to be played by Wednesday 4 November.
