Valladolid blog: day 5, training ramps up
21 Nov 2015
Now halfway through the training camp in Valladolid, with funding from Erasmus+, the Scotland Women’s squad focus turns to their forthcoming friendly against the host nation, as scrum-half Sarah Law outlines:Day 5 saw the last full training day before the final preparations for the game against Spain on Sunday could begin. The squad returned to gym in the morning for the first session of the day – weights. With the reps reduced, the emphasis could be on more explosive movements, which should help to increase both speed and power on the pitch. The weights session was accompanied by a quick sprint technique session, then an indoor skills session, allowing the handling to be sharp and providing a much-needed break from the cold and damp conditions outside, which seemed to have followed us from Scotland. After a short break for a protein-packed lunch, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all, the afternoon session involved a run-through of the match day warm-up allowing the players to familiarise themselves with the game day set-up.A quick recap of our defensive shape and principles was followed by attack from scrums and lineouts in various positions on the field, ensuring that everyone was comfortable with the game situations that are likely to occur on Sunday. With training done, the excitement is now building for the much anticipated game on Sunday.
