Ian MacGregor
29 Nov 2016
Scottish Rugby is saddened to learn of the death of former Scotland internationalist Ian A A MacGregor who has passed away in Crosshouse Hospital.Ian was capped nine times for Scotland in the 1950’s at wing forward, when he was playing for Hillhead then Llanelli. However it was while he was involved with Glasgow Academicals that he was asked to join the Scottish Rugby committee in 1975.He went on to become manager of Scotland’s touring team in Australia in 1982; convener of the selection committee in the Grand Slam season two years later, and, eventually chaired the laws and coaching committees. He resigned in 1989 but had he remained on the Scottish Rugby committee he could well have become the president in 1991-92, the season of the World Cup.Ian was a committed and enthusiastic master at the Academy and was responsible for many successful 1st XV’s. His enthusiasm was passed onto his two sons who formed a formidable half back partnership for Accies. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Calum and Graeme, and to all of Ian’s family and friends.
