Scottish Rugby referee Mike Adamson is set to make his Guinness Six Nations debut with his appointment as Assistant Referee for the championship finale between France and Ireland at Stade de France.
The referee selection, the first since Rugby World Cup 2019, includes a blend of experience and emerging international talent with 20 of the 21 match officials involved in Japan 2019 selected.
Jérôme Garcès’ international retirement means Andrew Brace (Ireland) makes his tournament refereeing debut, while Matthew Carley (England) returns. Both were assistant referees at RWC2019.
It will be a ninth international appointment for Adamson, who took up refereeing after retiring from a playing career that included being capped for Scotland 7s, representing Glasgow Warriors for four seasons and a stint with London Scottish.
He’s made strong strides on the refereeing scene and was selected to officiate on World Rugby’s sevens circuit, while also earning the opportunity to referee at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
He was the first Scottish Rugby match official to take charge of a European knock-out game since 2010, officiated the all-Irish Guinness PRO14 semi-final between Leinster and Munster earlier this year, ran the line at the PRO14 Final and will referee this weekend’s Heineken Champions Cup match between Ulster and Harlequins, in a Scottish panel: Assistant Referees Keith Allen and David Sutherland, TMO Neil Patterson and citing commissioner Beth Dickens, the former Scotland prop.
The appointments were made by the World Rugby Match Officials Selection Committee.
The selections for the Women’s Six Nations 2020 will be announced shortly.
