Caithness hope to become Guinness World Record holders

The Thurso club will be aiming to break the existing Guinness World Record for the longest game of touch rugby, which currently stands at 30 hours, 3 minutes and 11 seconds.

With the geographical challenges that the club face, the marathon contest is to help raise funds to support the extensive travel their various teams have to make during the rugby season.

A donation will also be made to MyName’5 Doddie Foundation from the funds raised.

The players will have the support of their club members as well with a separate 12-hour fundraising game also being played alongside the touch rugby record attempt, whilst putting on a BBQ, baking stall, bottle stall and bouncy castle across the weekend.

Caithness President, George Sinclair said: “This is a great opportunity for the club to come together in their attempt on the world record. We are hoping it will attract loads of people to the club on the weekend. It will be a great fun event and at the same time raising much needed funds for the club and the MyName’5 Doddie Foundation.”

The Guinness Book of Records permit that two teams of 14, with six players allowed on the pitch at any one time, will have to play for over 30 hours to become the new World Record holders.

Their attempt will commence on Friday evening at 6pm at Millbank and will hopefully finish in the small hours of Sunday morning.
