Celebrate a night of Grand Slam memories
Scotland’s Grand-Slam winning teams of 1984 and 1990 will be celebrating their victory anniversary later this year – in order to raise money for former rugby players who have suffered serious injuries.
The event to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the 1990 Grand Slam win had an unfortunate two-year delay due to the pandemic, but with the help from the squad’s winger, Iwan Tukalo, awareness and funds are being raised for Hearts & Balls – a charity which supports injured players.
Tickets are now available for the dinner which will take place on Saturday 21 May 2022, at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
Heroes of 1990 Gavin and Scott Hastings, who both played vital roles in securing the historic Grand Slam win against England that year, kickstarted the event at BT Murrayfield this week.
Gavin said: ‘’The anniversary is being dedicated to an amazing charity, Hearts and Balls; one that all players are proud to support and will know a difference is being made.
‘’We’re very much appreciative and looking forward to enjoying the dinner as it’ll be a great opportunity to see and catch up with all our former team-mates again.”
The brothers reflected on Scotland’s win against England on Saturday that began this year’s GUINNESS Six Nations Championship by retaining the Calcutta Cup. Scott classed it as a special moment.
He said: ‘’By having the crowds back and to see the support that they give to the team is just outstanding. It definitely brought back some fond memories of when we played for Scotland.”’
Founded in 1999, the Hearts & Balls charity has raised more than £650,000 for rugby players who have endured devasting injuries. With the support they provide players can gain a range of help from property conversions to counselling and more.
