Women’s Tennent’s Leagues

Kicking-off proceedings this season are the women’s Tennent’s leagues which have recently been restructured following consultation with clubs and societies.

The women’s National leagues will begin slightly earlier than the previous season, with a start date of 20 August 2022.

As per the outcome of the consultation, the Premiership league has been expanded to seven teams, which means Cartha Queen’s Park 1XV will not be relegated from the division as per the competition rules from the 2021/22 season.

Premiership title winners, Watsonians will open their 2022/23 season campaign at away to Cartha Queen’s Park, whilst league newcomers Garioch travel south to face Corstorphine Cougars.

Elsewhere in the competition’s opening weekend, Hillhead Jordanhill host Stirling County, meaning Heriot’s Blues season will commence the following week.

This is the last season in which the women’s structure facilitates a National 1 division. The winner of the upcoming season’s National 1 competition will earn promotion into a further expanded Tennent’s Premiership for the 2023/24 season, whilst remaining teams will realigned to four regional league structures, of which each has two divisions.

Following promotion from the regional league structure last season, Biggar will commence their National 1 campaign at home to Ayr RFC.

The final two fixtures in the opening weekend of competitions sees Broughton host West of Scotland, whilst Stewartry travel to Howe of Fife.

In the regional set up, three competitions will remain: North, West and the East/Midlands leagues.

The Caledonia Midlands/East league will expand to include Kelso, who withdrew from National league last season, plus a 2XV team from Corstorphine Cougars, who become the second team in Scotland to enter a 2XV team into the Tennent’s league competitions.

Elsewhere, Annan Warriors have elected to drop down from Tennent’s National 1 to the Tennent’s West league.

Men’s Tennent’s Leagues

Opening fixtures of the men’s Tennent’s leagues will take place from Saturday 27 August 2022.

The structure of the Tennent’s Premiership and Tennent’s National Leagues 1, 2 and 3 revert to what it was prior to the Covid-19 pandemic (10 team Premiership and 3 National Leagues of 12 teams).

The top two finishers in the Tennent’s Men’s Premiership earn a home semi-final against the two teams finishing in third and fourth place.

The highest placed winner from the semi-finals will then become the host of the final where the Tennent’s Men’s Premiership league champions will be decided.

Defending league-cup Champions Marr will being their double defence this coming season hosting Musselburgh at home in the opening round of the Tennent’s Men’s Premiership.

Last season’s runner up, Currie Chieftains will welcome Jed-Forrest to Malleny Park, whilst Edinburgh Academical venture west to take on GHA, and Hawick face Selkirk in Borders derby in the remaining matches.

In Tennent’s Men’s National League Division 1, newly promoted GHK and Stewart’s Melville will commence their season in a head-to-head at Inverleith.

Tennent’s Men’s National League Division 2 kicks off with league newcomers Lasswade and Berwick take on Kirkcaldy and Hamilton Bulls respectively.

The first round of Tennent’s Men’s National League Division 3 sees Royal High and Orkney make the step up from the regional leagues where they will face each other at Barnton.

Below National 3 the leagues remain in separate regional competitions.

Youth & Schools

The upcoming season for the school game includes seven Conferences for boys at U13, U14, U15, U16 and U18 levels.

The inspiresport Schools Conference fixtures were communicated to participating schools on Wednesday 15 June and can be found HERE.

Two new National leagues have been created for Girls at U18 and U16 level, encompassing 14 teams in each competition. Fixtures for these leagues can be found HERE.

Following on from the consultation with clubs, the Boys Club Conferences have undergone a restructure, and fixtures can be found HERE.

Outcomes from the inspiresport Schools Conference fixtures, Girls National leagues and Boys Club conferences will determine progression to the National Schools and National Youth Cup competitions set to take place in December 2022.

Should any club have any issues regarding ground availability for any match, or should a team wish to fulfil their fixture at an alternative day or time (for example, a Friday night or mid-week), they are asked to contact their opponents and mutually agree to alternative arrangements before contacting the relevant Competition Committee for approval.
