Shiel joins Scotland 7s in Paris
7 Jun 2018
John Dalziel has made one change to his Scotland 7s squad for the final HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series tournament of the season in Paris.
Uncapped Charlie Shiel is brought in to replace Gavin Lowe who picked up a leg injury in London.
20-year old Shiel plays for Currie in the BT Premiership and is a member of the BT Sport Scottish Rugby Academy.
His father, former Scotland International Graham, represented Scotland 7s in 1996 and was the programme’s Skills coach until 2015.
Charlie played under John Dalziel for Scotland U20s last season and is also a capped Scotland Club XV International.
Scotland have been drawn against South Africa, Canada and Russia on day one in Paris.
Scotland 7s Head Coach John Dalziel said: “We are looking at being more consistent in our delivery and just getting our basics right. Doing the simple things to the standard we expect.
“The weekend can’t come quick enough and the players are desperate to get back out there and express themselves in the way we know they can.
“It’s exciting to give a debut to another up and coming youngster. The challenge of 7s will be huge in Charlie’s development as we have seen with the likes of George Horne and Darcy Graham.”
