Pacesetters continue fine early season form
The fourth round of the Women’s Tennent’s Premiership saw three comprehensive home wins as the division’s two unbeaten sides maintained their flawless start to the season.
At Hughenden, Hillhead Jordanhill eased to a nine-try win over Stirling County at Hughenden, with Feebi Robinson, Siobhan McMillan and Louise McMillan all helping themselves to a brace of scores.
Of their 53-17 success, Hillhead Jordanhill coach Aird Jardine said: “Every game we have had against Stirling has been a physical encounter and this wasn’t any different. It was a great performance from all the Hills girls, led by the work done by the forwards to allow us to play such fast rugby. There were some really impressive individual performances but it was the overall team execution in attack and defence that resulted in the final score.”
Stirling County rallied to score three tries of their own, something that coach Rob Storey praised, saying: “It was a tough game with the Hills’ big runners making us work hard defensively, but we scored a few good tries We were made to work hard in both defence and attack and it was only with some good attacking play and good handling that we managed to score our tries. We have a few lessons to learn and take forward into our next game against Cougars.”
Watsonian were relentless in their resounding win against Ayr at Myreside, racking up 142 points without reply as their flawless start to the 2019/20 season continued in fine style, setting the club up for a mouth-watering encounter with Hillhead Jordanhill this coming Saturday. Elsewhere, Corstorphine cantered to a 55-19 win over Cartha Queen’s Park to make it consecutive wins and keep up the pressure on the teams at the top of the table.
