Stewartry Sirens v Stirling County – Greenlaw, KO 1pm

Stewartry Sirens and Stirling County kick things off this weekend as they meet for the first time this season at Greenlaw.

The current champions sit second in the league standings, with five wins from six. Stand-off Ceitidh Ainsworth has continued to impress scoring seven tries and converting 17 times so far this season, making her the top points scorer as we approach the mid-way point in the league.

Ahead of the game, Head Coach Mark Ainsworth said: “We are looking forward to visiting Stewartry this weekend. We are expecting a tough challenge and will need to be at our best to extend our strong start to the season.”

It’s been a challenging debut in the Premiership for the Sirens but they continue to front up and take each game as it comes. Looking ahead to this weekend, Sirens Player/Coach Dunna Burns said: “This Saturday the Sirens again face another tough challenge as we welcome Premiership league title holders Stirling County to Greenlaw. The squad has been working hard in training on defence and attacking strategies. We look to continue improving our all-round game to meet the highest standards the Premiership demands.”

Cartha Queens Park v Garioch – Dumbreck, KO 2pm

With both teams looking for much needed table points, Cartha Queens Park v Garioch could prove to be a big game now that we are across the half-way point in the league.

Reflecting on their last hit out against Stirling County, Garioch captain Sammy Ross said: “We were really tested by the Stirling game at home and disappointed by a rather large defeat, despite getting some good scores on the board ourselves and missing out on a try bonus.

“The score lines have been tough, but the teams spirit remains unbroken and we’re determined to put on a performance we know we are capable of. We’ll learn, grow and head into our next games with a strong determination to rise from that defeat and let our fight and resilience be what defines us rather than the scoreboard.”

Ross is under no illusions about the fight ahead of them, adding: “We know we are headed into another tough game this weekend as we face Cartha who have always given us a tough game when we come up against them, but we’ll take every moment as it comes.”

Heriot’s Blues v Hillhead Jordanhill – Goldenacre, KO 2pm

It’s East versus West as Heriot’s Blues host Hillhead Jordanhill at Goldenacre.

Both sides have been playing well this season with some big scores and narrow losses. A bonus point win for Heriot’s could see them jump ahead of Hills in the league standings.

Ahead of this weekend, Blues co-captain Annabell Sergeant said: “We’re gearing up and raring to face Hillhead this week, recharged after a hard-earned break. Our journey has seen steady progress, with close-fought battles in our last two games against last season’s champions. With the ball in our hands, we pose a constant threat; now, it’s time to capitalise on every opportunity and turn the tide in our favour!”

This weekend Number 8 Debbie Lee pulls on the captain’s arm band for Hills in absence of Hannah Telling. Speaking to scottishrugby.org, Debbie said: “We’re really looking forward to playing again after our week off. It gave us time to work on specific parts of our game, but we also enjoyed the well-earned rest.

“The Heriot’s team is pretty different from when we played them in the Sarah Beany Cup, as is Hills, so with some exciting new players on the scene it should be a really good match.”

Corstorphine Cougars v Watsonian FC – Union Park, KO 2pm

It’s Edinburgh derby day as Cougars host Watsonians at Union Park.

The last time these sides met was in Sarah Beaney Cup Final on Saturday 6 May, where Watsonians scooped the win by just one point (26-25). You can expect this game will be a big one, with Watsonians looking to back up their Cup winning performance as Cougars seek redemption.

This game will also see Watsonians looking to maintain their unbeaten run in the league and cement their position as the table leaders, whilst for Cougars a bonus point win could help springboard them into second place.

Ahead of the game, Cougars Head Coach, Eric Jones said: “We’ve had four tough training sessions since our last game to keep the players ticking over and lots of people have been putting their hand up for selection.

“We’ve spoken a lot about what we want to do in attack and defence this weekend. We recognise that Watsons are currently unbeaten and they’ll be riding on that confident start to the season. We know each other pretty well and we’re expecting the usual tough game against Watsons.”
