Since its launch in 2021, Scottish Rugby has engaged with more than 70,000 pupils across over 600 state schools through the programme.

Scottish Rugby Schools Week aims to increase opportunities for girls and boys to engage in rugby by supporting teachers to deliver new rugby activities or highlight existing rugby activities, whilst providing links to local clubs.

Linking to Scottish Rugby’s new State School Strategy, the programme also aims to deliver a legacy for future rugby prevision in state schools through enhanced CPD and teacher specific rugby resources to inspire teachers to continue to deliver rugby.

Gavin Scott, Scottish Rugby’s Director of Rugby Development said: “I’m really pleased that Scottish Rugby Schools Week, supported by Saltire Energy, is back for 2023, and I’m looking forward to working with schools and clubs to build on the success from last year’s programme.

“This programme is a key driver in our work to engage more state schools in rugby, allowing more young people to enjoy the benefits of our game, whilst promoting wellbeing through an inclusive sport where there is a place for everyone, no matter their gender, ability or level of fitness.”

The programme is once again supported by Saltire Energy, a leading rental specialist in oil and gas equipment to the global energy sector.

Mike Loggie, Chief Executive of Saltire Energy, said: “Saltire Energy is immensely proud to once again support Scottish Rugby Schools Week. Engaging young people and future rugby players is more important than ever and our main goal is to see young people reignite their love for the game.

“We want to help make rugby inclusive and accessible to all throughout Scotland and help the sustainable growth of the youth game that Scottish Rugby Schools Week has already achieved since it kicked off in 2021.

“Whether you are playing or teaching for the first time, picking up a ball after a break or just enjoying the fun of the sport, we hope taking part in Scottish Rugby Schools Week will leave young Scottish players loving rugby as much as we do!”
